INVISALIGN FIRST FOR KIDS IN HARRISBURG, CARLISLE, AND CAMP HILL

Invisalign First is an innovative treatment program designed specifically for young children needing Phase I Treatment (also known as Early Treatment). Seeing a need for early treatment in children aged 6 to 10, Align Technologies introduced Invisalign First in July 2018. Using iTero intraoral scanners and Smart Track material, Invisalign First incorporates the same technology that has made Invisalign a favorite among orthodontic patients.

PHASE 1 TREATMENT

The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) recommends that children have a first orthodontist appointment before they reach 7-years-old. In approximately 20 percent of all children, Phase 1 Treatment is recommended. In cases where no Phase 1 Treatment is necessary, young patients are placed in a monitoring program.

When Phase 1 Treatment is recommended, it is important to provide the best orthodontic care available. Invisalign First is an effective, non-invasive and non-traumatic way to guide a child’s facial growth. At 7, a child’s permanent teeth have begun erupting and they have lost most of their primary teeth. An orthodontist can predict potential problems and use early treatment to guide new teeth into correct positions.

Invisalign First can work to correct a wide range of problems including, but not limited to:

  • Crowded teeth
  • Gap teeth (Diastema)
  • Narrow dental arches
  • Over- and underbites
  • Protruding teeth
  • Malocclusions

Invisalign First tray aligners are designed for comfort, so children are less likely to experience discomfort. Because the trays are removable, it is easier for smaller children to maintain good oral hygiene practices. Invisalign First delivers predictable results. While braces can be a traumatic experience for young children, Invisalign First offers a positive orthodontic experience.

HOW INVISALIGN FIRST WORKS — WHAT TO EXPECT

In order to develop a treatment plan for your child, the orthodontist must complete an examination. The exam includes digital images, X-rays, and an oral examination. Once the doctor has determined that Phase 1 Treatment is necessary, they will discuss options with you regarding treatment.

Digital technology allows doctors to show patients the progression of treatment. Using Invisalign First, a series of alignment trays will be made that are unique to your child. The aligners will gently guide your child’s facial growth, allowing adult teeth to settle into proper positions.

It is important that your child wear Invisalign First alignment trays constantly, except when eating and drinking. It may take your child some time to adjust to wearing the trays. It is also important to maintain good oral hygiene during treatment.
